Two Friends
An old man, slightly bent
youth, but not vitality spent,
walks on the side of a busy highway
on a cloudy, overcast day.
The weeds, knee high,
lap at his jeans as he passes by
on his daily chore--
walking a mile from his house to the store.
His friend walks close by his side
matching his stride
his nose slightly bent
sniffing the air for a rabbit's scent.
The man looks at his friend and smiles.
He remembers the miles
they've walked before,
an old man and his dog
on their way to the store.
